Amsterdam. It took my breath away.
My last final exam was on Dec 20 and my flight back to Chicago was Dec 23… so what to do with those extra two days? Under different circumstances, I would have simply enjoyed my last few days in Milan, but I had an incredible opportunity for an unbelievable reunion.
Josine and Floris used to live down the street from me. When I was in 3rd grade, Josine was my best friend in the world. We hung out every day after school. We played Uno and drank tea and skateboarded together. (Yep, I used to skateboard… I know, I’m SO cool.) During those years, Floris was my brother’s best friend too. But after about two years, Josine and Floris moved back to the Netherlands, and I thought I would never see either of them again.
Enter Facebook. Not sure how, but Floris and my brother reconnected, and then Josine and I reconnected soon after. And then I found out I was going to Europe. And everyone wanted to visit Amsterdam. Logistically, I didn’t manage to go with any of my exchange friends, but… after chatting with Josine a bit, I decided to make the journey on my own.
It was absolutely the right decision. After 11 years, it was incredible to reunite with old friends.
A few favorites from Pompidou, including that familiar Kartell chair!
Paris. After LeWeb, I used my precious one-free-day to explore the Centre Pompidou, Île de la Cité, and Île Saint-Louis, where I took this beautiful photo! (I also stuffed my face with crepes and maccaroons…)
Just a couple photos to capture a taste of LeWeb. I’ll discuss more on my website, abbychao.com, but as a bit of flavor - it was a stellar conference with an incredible lineup, coupled with a fun little party featuring the Ting Tings!
LeWeb. Even though I had my iPhone stolen (while I was listening to it!) during my walk to LeWeb, I nevertheless had an amazing time here. The concentration of entrepreneurs, investors, and all-around tech people was incredible. I’ve never felt so inspired!
